Top security officers from Busia County led by County police commander John Nyoike are embroiled in a meeting in Amagoro, Teso North sub county to seek the way forward following multiple demonstrations by residents in Malaba town following the shooting and killing of a resident by a police officer on Friday.
The victim was shot and seriously injured by a police officer in Road block area near Malaba primary school for allegedly not putting on a mask. He was rushed to Kocholia Level four hospital in critical condition where he succumbed a few hours later.
On Saturday, hundreds of residents led by area MCA Benard Papa staged a demonstration outside the Malaba police station, protesting against what they termed as heightened police brutality in the area. They are also demanding for the transfer of officer commanding the station Mrs. Cecilia Muthoni.
They want the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA), EACC and DCI to investigate the matter fully and prosecute the officer responsible for the murder.
