Mbale town traders in Vihiga protested against delayed elections of its officials accusing the executive member for trade Ebby Omido of postponing the election dates. Waving placards and carrying twigs, they marched to Governor Moses Akaranga’s office to demand immediate elections.
The traders forced themselves into the governor’s offices and had a rough time with security agents at the offices before being allowed to enter. They also accused Omido of underrating their status by calling them low-class level when they demanded for immediate elections.
They also complained that their current chairman Idi Sufuria was not one of them but had only benefited from the county jobs. However, Governor Moses Akaranga who addressed the traders said that the elections will be held on Tuesday next week to pave way for new officials amid applause from the crowd.
“We are going to have the election next week on Tuesday at 8.30 am at Mbale market. Be prepared and arrived there early and don’t blame us anymore,” said Akaranga. Akaranga, however, did not reprimand his accused executive member but his promise that election will be held next week Tuesday made the traders leave in peace.
