Kanduyi MP John Makali has expressed his condolences for a Bungoma National Polytechnic student who allegedly lost their life after being shot by police officers. Speaking to the media, Makali strongly condemned the police for their excessive use of force in attempting to control students who were participating in a protest.
“I vehemently condemn the actions of the police,” Makali stated. “The use of excessive force against unarmed students is unacceptable. We must ensure that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.”
The MP has urged investigative agencies, including the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and independent oversight bodies, to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the student’s death, emphasizing that the individual was unarmed and posed no threat. “It is crucial that we uncover the truth behind this tragedy. An independent investigation is necessary to ensure transparency and justice,” he added.
During a recent visit to the polytechnic, Makali revealed his concerns about the institution’s management and the ongoing issues faced by students. “After visiting the campus last week, I discovered serious management issues. I call upon local leaders and security agencies to collaborate in addressing these challenges to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for all students,” he remarked.
He further assured residents that he will use all available means to ensure that sanity prevails at Bungoma National Polytechnic. “I am committed to advocating for the rights and safety of our students. Together, we will restore order and ensure that our educational institutions serve their intended purpose,” Makali emphasized.
