County Assembly of Trans Nzoia has approved the names of chief officers who were nominated by County Governor Patrick Khaemba, though there was noted opposition from the majority leader Patrick Kisiero and his counterpart Lawrence Mogusu, Kinyoro Ward MCA. The nominated County chief officers are set to start their duties immediately.
Speaking to the media after the session, Trans Nzoia County speaker Joshua Werunga said employment letters will be issued to the chief officers, and he urged them to be ready to deliver, “We want better services for our residents who deserve essential service delivery, and hopefully their service delivery will go a long way towards alleviating poverty in the Couty,” said the Trans Nzoia Assembly speaker. He lauded the Governor’s choices, saying he had clear confidence in them.
However, the Assembly majority leader and Endebess MCA Patrick Kisiero and Kinyoro MCA Lawrence Mogusu criticized the manner in which the names were approved, without a proper debate. They claimed there was foul play in the whole process, saying some prospective applicants weren’t considered while some candidates who didn’t even apply for the jobs were given special preferences, “We can’t accept the names as many officers who’ve been approved don’t even qualify for their respective positions. We are taking this issue to court,” said Kisiero.
They have urged human interest and influential lobby groups as well as the church to push for justice for the affected applicants who were affected by the flawed process, “This Assembly is corrupt and the Members don’t give heed to justice. How can one erase the names of prospective officers who had registered their interest in the jobs, then you replace them with candidates who weren’t even shortlisted and didn’t turn up for the interview?” posed Mogusu.
