Bodaboda Operators from Trans Nzoia County, have vowed to work hand in hand with the security apparatus in a bid to wipe out the rising spate of insecurity in the region.
Led by their organizing secretary Ben Wanjala alias Mulipuko, the motorcyclists refuted claims associating them with the Mungiki sect saying the rumor is malicious and damaging to the youngsters trying to earn a living like them.
Referring to the recent incident where bodaboda demonstrated against the killing of their colleague by a lorry driver, an incident that saw business brought to a standstill and police engaging them in running battles, Wanjala blamed unsuspected persons impersonating as bodabodas for looting.
Wanjala has assured the police that they will cooperate with them to ensure security reigns in the region as the Country is headed towards the 2017 polls.
“We are going to work with the police to crack down criminals in the area and to ensure business thrives for everyone,we, ” he said adding that all bodaboda’s are not criminals as alleged by some people.
He appealed to his colleagues to observe traffic rules and regulation to avoid being at loggerheads with the police.
“We had a meeting recently with all security heads in the County and us as leaders, assures the police that we shall adhere to traffic regulations and work with them for the better,” Said Wanjala.
Concerning personal hygiene, he agreed that plenty of passengers had lamented about the unbearable smell from some operators, appealing to his colleagues to maintain proper hygiene to avoid chasing away the customers.
He, however, appealed to his colleagues to desist from perceiving the police with a negative attitude, noting that the police only expects maximum cooperation from them to beef up security in the area.
