George Natembeya is the candidate of DAP-K under Azimio Coalition for Trans Nzoia County after being cleared to run for Gubernatorial seat whilst Dr. Chris Wamalwa is the Candidate of Ford Kenya party under Kenya Kwanza Coalition.
The two were cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC after presenting their papers before the Commission sitting at the Kitale Museum.
Natembeya was cleared on 6th of June after presenting his documents accompanied by his Deputy Dr. Bineah Kapkory while Dr. Chris Wamalwa was cleared on 7th of June after presenting his documents before IEBC and was accompanied by his Deputy Joyce Cheruto.
Natembeya arrived at the office with a host of other leaders including Trans Nzoia Assembly speaker Joshua Werunga, Keiyo ward MCA Emmanuel Waswa ,elders from Luhya community as well as Saboat Community.
Natembeya promised to stage a tough campaign especially as campaigns kick off within the County expressing optimism of clinching the seat and elevating the County from where it is to greater heights.
He promised to revamp the ailing economy of the County, Poor Health Services, Road Networks, and Agricultural sectors and eliminate corruption that he claimed has taken toll within the County noting that his administration will revamp and improve the living standards of Trans Nzoia residents.
On his part, Dr. Wamalwa expressed his confidence of clinching the seat on August 9 and fix the challenges that the residents within the County are undergoing that his predecessor Governor Khaemba has not addressed.
Dr. Wamalwa promised to finish the projects that Governor Khaemba has initiated and were not complete including the unfinished construction of Referral hospital as well as Business Center.
Wamalwa used the opportunity to introduce his running mate Joyce Keter Cheruto explaining her brief history as a family woman married and with two children contrary to social media platforms that had depicted her as not a family woman.
The decision was made following his earlier appointment of a teacher as his running mate Betwel Kirior who didn’t resign on time and that he had breached election laws that was put in place which the later didn’t resign by the deadline of February 9 as per the laid down laws set by IEBC.
The Gubernatorial candidate took a swipe at Indians residing in the County for funding his opponent as well as criticizing County Commissioner whom he claimed was engaging in politics of the County noting that he had reported the matter to the Ombudsman as well as presented the matter in assembly over the conduct of the officer.
He was accompanied by Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi, Cherangany candidate on UDA Wesley Korir among other leaders.
So far six candidates have been cleared to run for gubernatorial post in Trans Nzoia County with the tight horse race being between the two Dr. Wamalwa and Natembeya, others are Jim Nduruchi (Independent), Wycliffe Eshiwani (Independent) among others.
