The Trans Nzoia County University Task Force has successfully concluded its mandate, marking a significant milestone in the county’s educational landscape. In a press briefing held in Kitale on Saturday, Dr. Helen Yego, the Vice Chairperson of the Task Force, announced that the comprehensive report will soon be presented to Governor George Natembeya.
Dr. Yego emphasized that the report encapsulates the diverse perspectives of residents from every corner of the county, including those residing abroad. The Task Force also collaborated with experts and stakeholders in the education sector to ensure that the report is well-informed and balanced.
“We have meticulously prepared this report, and we are eagerly anticipating the moment we can hand it over to Governor Natembeya,” Dr. Yego stated, underscoring the team’s dedication to the task.
Dr. David Wafula Lwangale, another member of the Task Force, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the thoroughness with which the team approached the final stages of the report. He assured the public that every necessary document has been carefully considered and included.
The Task Force extended its gratitude to the residents of Trans Nzoia County for their active participation, which was crucial to the report’s successful completion. Their input, alongside the expertise of various educational stakeholders, formed the backbone of the Task Force’s findings.
Kennedy Etyang, the Chief Officer for Education, lauded the Task Force for their resilience and dedication, despite the challenges they faced. He reassured the public that Governor Natembeya’s administration is fully committed to promptly implementing the recommendations put forth in the report.
Looking towards the future, Etyang expressed confidence in the county’s readiness to move into the next phase of this initiative—the establishment of a university in Trans Nzoia. He emphasized that this institution has been long overdue and is vital for elevating education standards and creating opportunities for the local population.
“A university will significantly boost education standards in the county and open up numerous opportunities for our residents,” Etyang remarked, underscoring the administration’s unwavering support for this ambitious project.
The Task Force, composed of a distinguished group of experts and community representatives, includes Professor Masibo Lumala, Professor Battan Khaemba, Professor Caleb Elung’ata, Dr. Helen Yego (Vice-Chairperson), Dr. David Wafula Lwangale, youth representative Hosea Sismat Chemche, Dr. Julie Magomere, Professor Bulitia, Julius Kivase, Eliud Wakasiaka Mwichabe (Secretary), and Alfred Mang’oli Namwitako. Their collective expertise and dedication have laid a strong foundation for the future of higher education in Trans Nzoia County.
