In recent events, Governor George Natembeya of Trans Nzoia County has been seen running the County without his Deputy Governor, a situation that has caused whispers in the corridors of the County.
The absence of Philomena Kapkoris, the Deputy Governor of Trans Nzoia County seems to have not shaken the “development” record of the County as currently Trans Nzoia enjoys being second in development according to recent infortrak development.
What went wrong between the two top leaders of Trans Nzoia County?
“My comments on her absence are known and the less I speak about her, the more comfortable I get. Read the constitution on her responsibilities. She only deputizes me.” Governor Natembeya explained during an interview with Westv.
Today, 6th of November 2023, while appearing before the Senate Development Committee, The Deputy Governor has fouled the top County seat on her predicaments.
Hon. Philomena who secured the audience of the Senate development Committee through a letter to the Deputy President and copied to the Senate (copy not seen by West Media digital team) has raised issues concerning her personal security and her differences with the Governor.
According to her, the Governor’s communication team is in use to elevate the dirty office politics. She claims the same team is sending her threatening messages on WhatsApp and other social media platforms. She informed the committee that she has reported the matter to the DCI, NCIC and at Muthangari Police Station in Lavingtone where she now resides.
Further, she claims that her effort to report all these abuses to the Governor for internal action against the perpetrators has been futile as the Governor went mute on her.
The Deputy Governor further claims, the CECs are now openly disrespecting her and have no regard for her office. She now feels discriminated against and sidelined at the County headquarters where key meetings are held in her absentia.
Moreover, she maintains that her office funding was slashed from ksh 200,000 to ksh 50,000, the funds she hardly gets. She also affirms that her absence is also due to her being thrown out of her official County residence.
“Two weeks ago I went to FIDA to report this case and my movements were discussed in the County. I was questioned at every stop I made and I was very concerned,” she lamented.
The Trans Nzoia County Senator, Allan Chesang who is also in attendance at the Senate Committee is supporting her complaints.
“I am supporting the Deputy Governor when she says the Governor is inciting his community against other communities and it is in public domain.” Senator Chesang explains.
Senator Chesang claims that the Governor’s wrath is not only felt by the Deputy Governor but also other leaders with contrary opinions.
“Whatever the Deputy Governor is saying is honestly the truth and I believe in my correct mind, that this Committee will take action to stop this as soon as possible.” Allan Chesang affirmed
