The County government of Trans Nzoia intends to use a regional laboratory for testing of samples for Covid-19 to boost the capacity of detecting possible infections in the region.
The administration is seeking to use the Kitale Public Health Regional laboratory which was set up courtesy of funding from the International Development Agency (IDA) and the World Bank.
Trans Nzoia deputy Governor Stanley Tarus said they are waiting for clearance from the Ministry of Health to use the facility to test samples. “We want to end reliance on the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital based in Uasin Gishu County to boost our capacity. We are waiting for the
green light and testing kits,” said Dr. Tarus in Kitale.
He spoke while receiving a donation of 37 hand washing equipment from the Water Mission and the Rotary Club of Kitale to go towards boosting
safety measures to curb spread of the virus.
Water Missions managing director Moses Ng’ania said the water tanks will be placed in areas which have no access to piped water to support the directive of washing hands to keep the virus at bay.
“We have decided to support this initiative since we are aware that there are families which cannot access piped water yet they are supposed to ensure they keep washing hands,” said Mr Ng’ania.
