Trans Nzoia County Governor Patrick Khaemba has refuted claims of misusing County funds set aside to deal with Covid-19. This comes days after Hospital ward MCA Eric Wafula and human rights activists led by Centre for Justice and Democracy chairperson Kepha Were claimed the County government hasn’t used the Covid-19 funds well.
Speaking on Monday when he visited the referral hospital facility that is under construction, the County chief laughed off some of the claims, saying that so far the County assembly hasn’t allocated money for the pandemic but a motion seeking a Kshs 50 million allocation has been presented already.
The Governor called upon leaders to desist from making some inflammatory statements that are aimed at spreading lies amongst the
public calling. He urged them to look for facts from his office. “There are some politicians who are brokers and their main aim is to ensure we fail in this war against Covid-19,” he said.
Khaemba however said plans have been put in place to deal with any Covid-19 cases in the County, noting that a 32 beds capacity ward has been set aside at Mt. Elgon hospital as well as the refurbishment of the doctors’ plaza which will house doctors who’ll be attending to patients in the County and that an isolation centre will be set up at the new referral hospital.
He stated that the new facility was ready to handle some patients, noting that several sections have been completed including the Children’s wing, maternity wing, kitchen, mortuary, installation of modern generators among other parts.
