Trans Nzoia County Governor Patrick Khaemba has warned corrupt officers in his administration engaged in graft of dire consequences, claiming some officer has made development projects
drag as a result of such actions. Speaking during the official swearing-in of the Public Service Board officers at his office Khaemba singled out officers in the tax departments who’ve been engaging in corrupt activities, noting that money collected was taken by some individuals who are fleecing the County.
“I want to categorically say that I have thieves (in my administration) and I don’t owe anyone an apology for this. I have thieves who are colluding to steal money collected from the citizens and are enriching themselves, your days are numbered,” said Khaemba.
He said some of the parking money collected as tax never reaches the County government and instead ends in individuals’ pockets and called upon some leaders to stop shielding the offenders.
He said he was planning to start a digital tax collection mode where residents will avail their tax through digitized gadgets and receive receipts.
The County chief extended his criticism to the department of health which he said was collecting less money than expected claiming the department is capable of collecting more than Kshs 300,000,000 per month yet its only collecting a paltry Kshs 90,000,000.
He disclosed that in future, money collected by the health department as tax will be used in the same department to improve health services as opposed to the current mode, where the department receives cash from the County government.
