Trans Nzoia County health workers are in panic following the news that their colleague is in isolation after testing positive for the Coronavirus. Covid-19 cases in the County are now 7, including the health worker.
The Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) Trans Nzoia branch chair Willy Sifuna led health officers in the County in condemning the deplorable situation in the health sector, saying nurses are facing various challenges.
Sifuna noted that little has been done by the County administration to prepare for the cases of infection, adding the County may lose several lives due to unpreparedness. He cited the lack of information on the part of health workers, saying it’s concerning, and that it hampers their effective handling of Covid-19 patients.
His sentiments were echoed by Trans Nzoia workers union chairperson Edward Cheruiyot who said many nurses are endangering heir lives b handling many patients yet they can’t tell their Covid-19 status. “We are worried if the infection rate gets serious most of us will be affected because we aren’t prepared.” He said Covid-19 education the nurses undertook isn’t sufficient and they don’t have enough information on handling those infected with the virus.
Another official, Samuel Kiboi, appealed to the County Governor Patrick Khaemba to sack Health CEC Claire Wanyama and the Health Chief Officer Charles Barasa, saying they haven’t performed in the Health docket.
