Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Sam Ojwang has launched the region’s
edition of the ongoing countrywide mass issuance of national identity
cards exercise. The exercise which was launched in Trans Nzoia West Sub County under the Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) will ensure everyone is captured under the National Integrated Identity Management System (NIIMS) program.
“We realized that some people were left out in the past Huduma Namba
listing exercise for lack of identity cards. This initiative will
capture all who have attained the minimum age for issuance of IDs,”
Mr. Ojwang’ spoke in Saboti.
The program which began on September 2, 2019, will run till October 4,
2019. The exercise also brings on board all County registration
officers who will cover all locations, schools and market places in
the five sub counties. “The end goal is to ensure all locals have access to government services which will soon be coordinated under the Huduma Namba system. This will guarantee improved service delivery,” said the commissioner.
There has been a public outcry in the manner identity cards’ issuance has been handled in the County with several residents complaining of commuting long distances in search of the vital documents
They said the headquarters they’ve been travelling to are located far and
this has made them lose more transport cash, adding that it’s also been time consuming.
The County commissioner announced plans were underway to relocate the Trans Nzoia West Sub County administrative headquarters from Kitale town to Saboti Market in a bid to bring services closer to the locals. Several residents lauded the planned initiative. “We used to move commute distances in search of the vital documents and the plan to move the headquarter from Kitale tiown to our area is a relief for us, as we shall not spend much time searching for government services”, said Paul Ndiema, a Saboti resident.
Saboti constituency Manager Luke Naibei said the area Member of
Parliament Caleb Amisi has also committed to set up the necessary
infrastructural development for the headquarters courtesy of the NGCDF
