Trans Nzoia Governor Patrick Khaemba and his Jubilee opponent Kakai Bisau have openly differed about the land availed by President Uhuru Kenyatta during Jubilee campaigns in Trans Nzoia County on Saturday after both leaders took credit for consultations with the head of state.
During the weekend campaign by Jubilee in the County, President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered that land owned by the prisons should be given back to the County government for development purposes.
Governor Khaemba thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for issuing the order, adding that he has lined up various projects in Kitale, including the expansion of a modern market. He claimed that his efforts were finally beneficial after visiting the President three times, requesting him to provide land for the County government to cater for development projects. However, he pointed out that the President’s order came late.
On the other hand, Kakai Bisau said the incumbent Governor was deceiving residents. He said the Governor should concentrate on his scorecard instead of spreading propaganda. He revealed that the decision to avail land was arrived at after he consulted the President, not Governor Khaemba, “If Governor Khaemba says he is the one who convinced President Uhuru Kenyatta to provide land to the County Government, where was he when the President made the announcement?” he posed. He argued that the Governor is trying to own projects which he hasn’t initiated.
Both leaders have promised that they’ll accept the outcomes of the elections, saying the residents would’ve decided the outcome on August 8th. They’ve appealed to Trans Nzoia County residents to maintain peace during the election period.
