Endebess Mp, Dr. Robert Pukose and Transnzoia county woman
representative Janet Nangabo have criticized the move by Agricultural
Development Corporation that wants to evict (Internally Displaced Persons) IDPs from its farms claiming the move if implemented will be inhuman, and that can inflict human
sufferings among the residents in the said farms.
The legislator’s criticism comes some days after IDPs in the said
farms complained of harassment by the administration of IDPs
claiming that the Parastatal is planning to evict them from
farms they were living in yet they have nowhere to go.
More than 3000 IDPs whose fate hangs in balance for fear of
eviction include the Kambi Waya, Kambi Wazee, and Cherubai claiming
they have stayed in the farm for more than 40 years and evicting them
will be disastrous since they know no where as home other than the
said farms.
The two legislators claimed the IDPS must be resettled by the
Government and given opportunities to also live decent lives as other
citizens of this country as they called upon the Government to handle the
plights of such IDPS with caution and not jeopardize the whole process
by making them landless in their own country.
Pukose claimed that the now IDPs used to stay in the ADC farms before
the government came and repossessed their land and evicted them making
several of them to move to Uganda in search of good life while others
who had no means stayed in the farm and were converted to workers of
ADC making them to suffer under the same.
They claimed the Parastatal has been paying them peanuts as salaries with
poorly makeshift huts, claiming such kind of life especially to workers is unfortunate.
“We want the management of ADC to make sure their workers are paid
well other than provision of better shelter for their employees and
stop imposing them to cruel lives”, said the leaders
