Trans Nzoia County Senator Henry Ole Ndiema and Kiminini MP Dr Chris Wamalwa have urged the executive arm of the government to respect the independence of the judiciary after some leaders castigated the court’s decision to halt the ballot papers printing tender.
The court had ruled that there was no public participation in the procurement process and ordered IEBC to cancel the tender which was awarded to Dubai-based Al Ghurair Printing and Publishing Company.
After the ruling, President Uhuru Kenyatta and other Jubilee leaders claimed the courts are siding with the opposition to interfere with the elections set calendar. He said the opposition was intimidating IEBC by taking cases to court.
Deputy President William Ruto urged Chief Justice David Maraga to explain to explain the interpretation of the ruling, claiming there was a plan by the opposition to share power, akin to the Grand Coalition government.
As a result, the two leaders, Kiminini MP Dr. Chris Wamalwa and Trans Nzoia Senator Henry Ole Ndiema have urged the leaders to respect the freedom of the judiciary as outlined in the Constitution. “The judiciary is independent and no one has the right to interfere with it,” said Wamalwa.
The two leaders, however, appealed to residents in the County to remain peaceful and avoid acts of divisive politics by any leader saying the country needs to remain united during and after general elections
