Leaders from Trans Nzoia County have condemned the recent spate of leaflets which have been dispersed in parts of Cherangany, bearing threatening and divisive remarks. This comes barely two weeks after similar leaflets were thrown at Kinyoro and Saboti ward areas, bearing the same messages, urging some residents to vacate the area.
It took the intervention of Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Anne Gakuria, who visited the affected areas and held discussions with respective area leaders and also held barazas.
Trans Nzoia Woman Representative Janet Nangabo has blamed some politicians, who she said have hatched a plot to distract the peaceful coexistence of residents in the region. She urged residents not to be worried concerning the leaflets and assured them of their safety ahead of the polls.
She urged other politicians to preach peace during and after the coming general elections saying the nation is more important. “I want to appeal to our leaders to preach peace to the County residents and avoid creating divisions along tribal lines,” she said. Furthermore, she urged the residents to desist from money influences, given that some leaders want to influence voters by dishing out money. She revealed that some aspirants give out money at night, saying residents should make informed choices without any ill influences.
Gubernatorial aspirants Kakai Bisau also appealed to politicians to preach peace, and avoid spreading propaganda. He said given that Trans Nzoia is a cosmopolitan County, they need a leader who can bring together residents. In relation to the peace and tranquillity of the County ahead of the polls, he urged residents to embrace peace and turn out in large numbers to elect the leaders they want, instead of electing leaders who won’t help them.
