Police in Kitale are holding a woman in Cherangany sub-county in Trans Nzoia county accused of killing and disposing of her one-year-old in Mogotpio village. Confirming the arrests, Trans Nzoia county police commander Lilian Okembo said the woman, Julia Cheruto killed her child due to domestic violence between her and her husband Charles Kiprotich. The husband had left the lady together with his mother at home but came back to find his child murdered.
The husband reported the incident to the police, prompting them to start investigations. They later concluded that Julia had killed her child, and she was planning to flee before the police arrested her just in time.
The county commander said the suspect will be arraigned in court soon on charges of murder and advised married people to solve their disputes in more civilized ways, and not to involve their children, as was the case with the suspect.
Elsewhere, police recovered a homemade gun that was hidden in a maize plantation at Nyakinywa village in Cherangany sub-county with four rounds of ammunition and the police suspect it’s being used by criminals within the area. The county commander said security was beefed up after they received information that a weapon was in the vicinity.
There have been reported incidents of residents being attacked and beaten by a gang of robbers in several parts of the county. The most recent incident was reported at Muthonis village, Kiminini sub-county, where robbers terrorized residents for more than four hours, and property of unknown value was stolen. The residents were reportedly tied together and molested for hours. The residents have, however, given an ultimatum to the security agencies to beef up security in the area, failure to do so will result in demonstrations. The residents aren’t pleased with the way security is being handled in the area.
