Trans Nzoia County has so far recorded 3 Covid-19 cases, with 2 new cases announced on Saturday. The first case was picked up in Kaplamai ward in Cherangany, while the latter were recorded in Kwanza. On Saturday, Trans Nzoia Governor Patrick Khaemba confirmed that the first patient was rushed to hospital, underwent treatment and has now recovered.
He said his government is ready for any eventualities that might arise in relation to Covid-19 cases and that wards are being set aside at the referral hospital to deal with Covid-19 patients, adding hat residents shouldn’t worry.
He has appealed to President Uhuru Kenyatta to extend the period set aside for Counties to ensure they have 300 isolation beds, each, claiming that the money allocated to the Counties for the purpose is insufficient. The national government has released Kshs 117 million to cater for Covid-19 preparedness in the County, and although the Governor confirmed he has received the funds, he has urged the government to increase the allocation. The County chief appealed to nurses to set aside their demands for better remuneration, saying the County is faced with an unexpected emergency.
