Trans Nzoia Senator Dr. Michael Mbito has expressed his dissatisfaction concerning the County’s Covid-19 preparedness, noting that the County isn’t ready to deal with Coronavirus cases, even after it received a Kshs 117 million to enhance preparation.
Speaking in Kitale, Senator Mbito said following interactions with nurses, opinion leaders and some residents, he has received negative opinions concerning the way Covid-19 funds are being spent, “The government allocated money for the construction of better hospitals to cater for Coronavirus cases, but until now, nothing tangible has happened on the ground,” he said.
He disclosed he will table the issue in the Senate to compel the Trans Nzoia leadership to explain how the Covid-19 funds have been utilized. He said that since the County borders Uganda and has porous borders, chances of infections are high and the County needs to prepare adequately.
However, Governor Khaemba has defended the slow pace of the hospital construction, saying its due to logistical problems, adding that the facility will be ready by the end of this week. Khaemba stated that the national government didn’t give them enough time to complete the construction of the 300 bed capacity isolation centre, adding tat he can’t rush and put up a sub standard facility.
