The governor of Trans-Nzoia has applauded devolution since it was implemented citing that his county had achieved a lot compare to other regimes.
Speaking to West FM, governor Khaemba said when he was elected into office, the state of agriculture was in a limping state but through the efforts of the county government, food security has increased giving hope to farmers in the county “When I was elected into office, farmers were getting 10 bags of maize per acre but through our initiatives,farmers are now getting 26 bags per acre which I hope will improve as time goes ,” He said.
He further said that each sub-county will have maize stores to enable farmers to deliver maize at a reasonable price to avoid exploitation by middlemen who buy maize at a lower price.
“ Our farmers have been exploited by brokers in the past but we have intervened on the situation by constructing maize stores per sub-county to enable farmers to deliver their maize at good price, “he said
He also added that farmers have embarked on coffee and banana rather than relying on maize production. “More than 100,000 modern banana suckers have been planted in the county and 3,000 stems of coffee in a bid to improve agriculture status in the county “He noted
In the education sector, he said the number of enrolled pupils in ECDE has raised from 12,000 to 30,000, this was as a result of building of 200 ECDE classes in the county and also employing of 800 teachers “Classes and teachers were big challenges in ECDE department but my county is determined to ensure education is improved in the county,” He said
He also said the road network in Trans-Nzoia is being improved and each sub-county has received 2 graders from the County government to ensure that infrastructure in the county is advanced rather than relying on contractors who have been giving poor services to the county.
We have equipped all health facility with drugs and each sub-county county will have a theatre and more than 366 health workers are being employed to serve people in the health facilities in the county.
He further said his county is determined to ensure that people in the county get clean water.
”We have drilled more than 20 boreholes in Trans-Nzoia county and we will continue to give the services to the resident of the county and my county government will ensure that people have clean water,” noted Khaemba.
He said Luhya unity is being undermined by selfish leaders from the region , he dismissed the allegation that he is defecting from FORD KENYA to JUBILEE he insisted that he still the member of the party and condemned his competitor for propagating false information.
