The chair of the Council of Governors Wycliffe Oparanya has called upon the Treasury and the controller of budget to act with speed and release cCunty funds for February and March, to help in the fight against the spread of the coronavirus.
Addressing the press in Kakamega, Governor Oparanya said that Counties need resources to support the fight given the overwhelming demand.
He further called upon the County governments and national government to put in place measures that will ensure that the needy in society do not end up suffering in case of a total lockdown that is likely to be announced any minute to curb the spread of the virus.
The Governor revealed that they are already mapping on the most vulnerable in the society in an effort to provide them with food and water during this season adding that the County has set hand washing machines in public centres for hygienic purposes.
He has called upon the police to help reorganize the boda boda sector terming it the weakest link in the fight against the virus. He warned that the spread is likely to shoot if people won’t change their behaviour.
