Livestock Principal Secretary Dr. Andrew Tuimur has dispatched pesticides to combat the army worm infestation in Nandi County.
While addressing farmers at the Nandi County headquarters where he handed over the chemicals to the officer in charge in the Ministry of Agriculture in Nandi Mary Ng’elechei, he cited that the problem is no longer severe because the National and County governments have joined hands.
He pointed out that two constituencies of Mosop and Tindiret in Nandi are the most affected areas, with land approximately 7000 hectares, adding that the situation has now been tackled.
He added that field officers are doing most of the work on the ground to curb the menace given that Nandi is an agricultural region and farmers need to be catered for.
Farmers in Mosop and Tindiret Constituencies in Nandi incurred huge losses after the fall armyworm infestation.
On the other hand, Mary Ng’elechei acknowledged the efforts made by the National government to ensure the army worms problem is dealt with. She added that the County government will continue its partnership with the National government and other agencies to find a lasting solution to the problem.
