Learning activities at Tulienge Primary School in Musikoma Ward, Kanduyi Constituency, were disrupted for hours as pupils took to the streets in a peaceful demonstration, calling for urgent intervention in the school’s land crisis.
The pupils, accompanied by teachers and parents, marched while holding placards, urging the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) to purchase an adjacent piece of land to facilitate the school’s expansion.
According to the school’s Parents’ Association Chairperson, Centrine Sifuna, the institution sits on a small piece of land, making it difficult to accommodate the ever-growing student population and limiting space for extracurricular activities.
“There is land next to the school, and the owner is willing to sell, but despite several proposals to the MP’s office, no action has been taken,” Sifuna lamented.
Headteacher Pius Khaemba expressed concerns that if the land is not secured soon, wealthy individuals in the area might buy it, leaving the school permanently landlocked.
“The number of pupils keeps increasing, and if we don’t expand now, we will soon have no space for learning and other activities,” Khaemba said.
The school administration and parents are now appealing to Bungoma County leaders, including the area MP, to intervene and fast-track the purchase of the land before it is too late.
“This is not just about the school but the future of our children. We urge our leaders to act now,” added Khaemba.
