Tunoi appears before investigating tribunal
The suspended Supreme Court judge Philip Kiptoo Tunoi was today brought forward before the tribunal investigating his conduct.
The top judge is alleged to have received a Ksh. 200 million bribe from the Nairobi governor Evans kidero in an election petition at the supreme court which he has since denied.
Justice Tunoi, who has since been suspended, is alleged to have received Ksh.200 million in order to influence an election petition against Dr Kidero. The petition was filed by his election challenger Ferdinand Waititu who had failed in the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the 2013 elections.
Businessman Michael Njeru who is also a witness testified that he and the accused have neither been friends nor met each other before when he was questioned by Senior Counsel Fred Ngatia.
The tribunal ordered the case to adjourn on 17th may, 2016 in order to give Mr. Njeru enough time to recover the affidavits which are in form of emails but have since been corrupted.
The case could not proceed due to the missing emails which are crucial to the ongoing proceedings.
Mr. Njeru received the emails from Mr. Hoseah Kiplagat who is a journalist.
The tribunal is headed by Sharad Rao who since September 2011 has been the chairman of the Kenya judges and magistrates vetting board.
