Members of the Turkana community in Trans Nzoia County have urged Governor Patrick Khaemba to consider professionals from their community for senior appointments in his government.
This is in reaction to a move by Governor Khaemba to nominate Mr.
Andrew Musungu to replace Mr. Maurice Lokwaliwa from the Turkana
community who resigned in December.
“We are calling on the Governor not to forget us because we are part
and parcel of this County. Mr. Lokwaliwa’s resignation does not imply
we no longer have interest,” said Jackson Erakai the chairman of the
Turkana Council of Elders in Trans Nzoia.
Mr. Erakai said the trend of leaders in the region of banking on the
community for numbers during the election period only to desert them
when it comes to allocation of resources must come to an end.
They noted that they have been subjected to marginalization by the
County government which has seen a majority of job seekers from their
community left out during appointments.
“We hope the new County public service board will set a new precedence where recruitment will be driven by qualification and the
constitutional spirit of inclusivity,” said Mr. Mark Adir.
They said they will be forced to seek redress in the courts of law in
the event their demands which they will soon present to Governor
Khaemba in form of a petition are not met.
“We will be waiting for action in coming days failure to which we will
be left with no other option but to file a petition to have the County
government compelled to address our grievances,” he said.
