Two people have lost their lives and four others have sustained serious injuries following a collision involving a truck at the Kaburengu business center on the Eldoret-Malaba Highway in Matete, Kakamega County.
Witnesses report that the accident happened after the truck, which was heading towards Webuye, lost control due to brake failure while descending a steep incline at Chimoi. The out-of-control truck first hit and killed a local tomato seller and a matatu driver who had disembarked from his vehicle.
Subsequently, the truck crashed into a matatu parked on the side of the road, injuring four more people before overturning. Emergency services swiftly arrived at the scene, transporting the injured to Webuye County Hospital, while the deceased were taken to the hospital’s mortuary.
The accident has led to significant disruptions on the highway, with angry locals blocking the road and causing a major traffic jam.
