Two people died on the spot after being involved in a road accident on Thursday at Sunflower Sudi on Bukembe, Nzoia road in Kanduyi, Bungoma County.
According to Bukembe location Chief Patrick Lukoye, the two were a boda boda rider and a passenger, a woman, and they were coming from Bukembe towards Nzoia when they were hit by West Kenya truck that was coming from Nzoia to Bukembe.
“I was in my office and was called that an accident had happened at Ekitale junction on Nzoia Bukembe road. I rushed to the scene and found the bodaboda rider and the passenger had already died,” said Lukoye. “The truck driver was a boy from Nzoia and had come home, then was headed to Bokoli to ferry sugarcane and take it to the company. Am told he was speeding, thus leading to the accident,” he added.
He has urged drivers to be keen and alert when driving to avoid such incidents in future. “I appeal to all road users especially drivers to be observant and avoid driving carelessly to reduce road deaths,” affirmed Lukoye
The bodies of the deceased were taken by the police to the mortuary in one hospital in Bungoma.
