Two individuals; a child and an elderly person died instantly after the vehicle they were traveling in was involved in a fatal accident at Misanga along the Bukembe-Webuye road.
Eyewitnesses at the scene recounted the horrific accident, stating that the driver lost control of the public service vehicle, which was being driven at high speed, causing it to plunge into a nearby thicket.
Joseph Manyasi, a resident of a nearby homestead, reported hearing a loud bang and rushing to the scene to assist. Unfortunately, two people had already succumbed to their injuries, and the rest were taken to the hospital for check-ups.
He mentioned that the vehicle was being driven at a very high speed and that one of the tyres was loose, which contributed to the accident.
Amos Wafula, an a bodaboda rider, called upon the relevant authorities to consider erecting speed bumps on the road, suggesting that this measure would reduce incidents of accidents that have been rampant due to over speeding.
The vehicle was towed to Bungoma Police Station, and the bodies of the deceased were taken to Bungoma Hospital Mortuary.
