Itigo girls high school in Chesumei constituency Nandi county is counting losses following the outbreak of fire which razed down two dormitories at the institution. According to a reliable source, the cause of the fire which broke down yesterday evening when students were taking their supper, has not yet been established though it is suspected to have been caused by an electric fault.
The two dormitories had a capacity of holding eighty students and nothing was saved from the fire incident including the students belongings which was reduced to ashes. It is alleged that the county fire extinguisher vehicle arrived late to the scene of the disaster despite the school administration swiftness efforts to inform the disaster response team on time.
The vehicle arrived one hour late after the fire outbreak thus making it difficult for the community to put off the fire, a situation that led to the county government of Nandi being blamed for sluggishness.
The Itigo girls incident is the recent one to happen in Nandi after several incidences reported in Western region, a situation which has left parents speechless not knowing what is wrong with students. Till we went on air, the school administration, security team and the ministry of education Nandi county branch was locked up in an emergency meeting.
