Two people sustained serious injuries on Thursday evening following a grisly road accident that involved three trucks at Mabanga few meters from Kipkaren market along the busy Eldoret–Webuye highway in Lugari Sub County.
Confirming the incident Lugari OCPD Benedict Mwangangi said the accident occurred after a driver of one of the trucks who was over speeding toward Eldoret applied emergency brakes as he descended towards the Mabanga bridge before he lost control and collided head-on with another truck that was crossing the bridge from the opposite side.
According to the OCPD after applying emergency brakes the truck lost its stability, swayed along the road making it difficult for the driver to control it before it collided with another truck approaching from the opposite side of the road and later hit a petrol tanker before it
veered off the road and fell few meters from the bridge. He said two drivers sustained serious injuries and they were rescued and rushed to Lumakanda Sub County Hospital.
Mwangangi has appealed to road users, especially motorists, to be extra careful as they approach the scene of the accident, which he classified as one of the many black spots along the busy Nairobi-Malaba highway. “As you can see we have a sharp bend and a bridge at this section of the road and we all understand many lives have been lost here with hundreds of people left with serious injuries after being involved in an accident at this place,” said Mwangangi. The police boss further urged motorists to be cautious during this rainy season as most sections of tarred roads in the region were slippery.
