Officers from the Homicide department have arrested two police officers based at Mbururu police post in Likuyani Sub County following the death of a suspect who is believed to have been tortured to death inside the cell at the police post.
The two constable, Emmanuel Viambaka and his colleague constable Godwin Sirengo are believed to have been involved in the arrest and subsequent disappearance of Denis Lusava alias “Mkali” whose maimed body was later found dumped in river Nzoia near Webuye.
After interrogating seven officers at the police post and the locals, officers from the Homicide department led by Mr. Martin Nyaguto, HSC (SP) the in charge Homicide section settled on the two who were arrested and taken to Kitale as they wait to be arraigned in an Eldoret court on Monday.
The officers have also managed to get a saloon car believed to have been used by the officers to carry the body from the station to river Nzoia. The owner of the car, Mr. Reuben Ongai, is also in police custody.
On the 7th October, 2020 Denis Lusava was arrested and locked at Mbururu police post with the officers at the station giving contradicting reasons for his arrest.
At first it was alleged that he had assaulted one of the officers at the station before it later emerged that he was arrested for walking in public without putting on a mask.
The officer tortured him in presence of his mother Agnes Ambale leaving him unconscious before he went missing, prompting angry residents to storm the police post and torched it.
His body was later found dumped in river Nzoia on 11th October, 2020 and taken to Webuye hospital mortuary for preservation and later transferred to Kakamega County referral hospital where an autopsy was conducted by Dr. Dickson Mchana on the 21st October, 2020.
The postmortem results showed that the victim died of injuries caused by blunt objects all over the body.
The DCI officer managed to find weapons believed to have been used to kill Lusava hidden in the toilet at the police post.
