Two people including a standard eight pupil have been killed by thugs in Busia County in two separate incidences. In the first incident, a bodaboda operator was killed by unknown people near his rental house in Nambale town.
The operator, Shafal Masuud aged 26 was found lying dead in a water trench with multiple cuts on his neck.”We went to the scene and confirmed that the operator had been killed by unknown people using either a knife or a panga which was pierced on his neck. We can’t tell the motive of his killers because they left his new motorbike near his body and that means they were not after the motorbike. We have launched investigations to get hold of those who killed him,” said Nambale sub county Police commander Robert Ndambiri.
He joined hands with Nambale sub county bodaboda operators chairperson Gilbert Okumu to call for cooperation from the motorists and members of the public in curbing insecurity by reporting suspected criminals to the police.”We also want to advise the operators to stop operating late into the night and be vigilant while carrying their customers.”
In the second incident, a standard eight pupil was killed by thugs at Malaya village, Mundika location, Busia County. According to Matayo Nyegenye, his grandson Gerephas Obonyo, a standard eight pupil at Mundika Boys primary was going to a funeral at night with his two cousins who are also candidates at the same school when he was attacked by two people with a knife and killed on the spot.”We ate supper together and the three grandsons went to sleep at ten. At around midnight I was called by a neighbor that one of the boys had been killed in the neighbouring Malaya village. I woke up with other people and went there and found the boy killed brutally. He had been stabbed by a knife severally on the neck. The other two boys said when they were approaching the home where the funeral was, two people clad in black clothes stopped them and told them to lie down. The two managed to run but the late was overpowered by the attackers who stabbed him to death.”
Nyegenye has appealed to the police to investigate the incident and arrest the culprits.”It’s so sad that they have killed a young boy who was to sit for his KCPE exams this year. They must be traced, arrested and prosecuted.”
