Two people died following a road accident that involved a Nissan Matatu and motorbike at Msalaba Yellow area along Eldoret–Kitale road in Likuyani Sub County.
According to eyewitnesses the accident occurred after the motorbike rider who was carrying a passenger tried to cross the road to the opposite side without seeing the Matatu which was approaching at high speed.
The Matatu Reg. No KCN 501D knocked them, killing the rider on the spot while his passenger sustained serious injuries.
The injured was rescued and rushed to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital Eldoret where he later succumbed while undergoing treatment. The rider’s body was also removed and taken to a mortuary at the same facility.
The incident happened barely five days after a woman died at the same spot after being hit by a speeding matatu while crossing the road on Wednesday last week.
Residents have appealed for the erection of bumps at that section of the road to check on the speeding vehicles and help save lives.
Confirming the incident, Soy sub location assistant chief Bonventure Lugado has urged motorists and other road users to be conscious and observe traffic rules to avoid unnecessary accidents.
