Two people died on the spot Tuesday night while two others sustained serious injuries in a fatal accident that involved a petrol tanker and a cane tractor near Lumakanda stage along the Eldoret – Webuye highway in Lugari Sub County.
Confirming the 8:30pm incident, Lugari Sub County Police Commander Bernard Ngungu said the accident occurred after the tanker rammed into the tractor which was fully loaded with canes.

He said the tractor which had no reflector at the back was invisible to the tanker driver who noticed it when he was too close.
The driver tried to swerve to the right to overtake it but unfortunately there was a Nissan Matatu approaching from the opposite side forcing the driver to return to his lane brushing the Matatu on the right side before ramming into the tractor.
The tractor driver and one cane loader died on the spot while two other loaders sustained serious injuries before being rescued and rushed to Lumakanda County hospital.
The two bodies were later removed from the scene and taken to Kimbilio mortuary in the neighbouring Uasin Gishu County.
Ngungu has appealed to the sugar companies harvesting sugarcane in the area not to allow movements of the tractors at night in order to avoid such accidents.
