Two people died on the spot following a fatal road accident that involved a truck and a motorcycle at Kaburengu along Eldoret – Webuye highway in Matete, Kakamega county.
Confirming the incident, Chevaywa location chief Alex Goricho said a lorry ferrying sugarcane hit the motorcycle from behind while descending the steep Chimoi slope towards Kaburengu crushing its occupants.
He said the motorbike rider and his pillion passenger, who is a teacher at Chamavele primary school, were killed on the spot.
The accident caused a huge traffic snarl up of about three kilometers stretching from Nzoia bridge to Chimoi bridge affecting transport on the busy highway.
Goricho has urged drivers to be mindful of other road users and avoid unnecessary accidents that can be prevented.
The two bodies were removed from the scene and taken to Webuye Sub County hospital mortuary in the neighbouring Bungoma county.
