Two boys died in a fatal accident that involved two motorbikes at Mirembe along Nangili – Sokomoko road in Kongoni location Likuyani Sub County.
According to eyewitnesses the victims who are secondary school students were competing to ride motorbikes when the accident occurred killing them on the spot.
“They were in a very funny competition whereby each of them had given out two hundred Kenya Shilling that whoever would reach the marked point first gets the cash. They were riding in opposite directions towards a given point around Mirembe area. They set off and almost arrived at the same time and they couldn’t control the bikes due to the high speed hence the head on collision, “said witnesses.
Confirming the incident, Kongoni sub location assistant Chief Martin Wafula Kwenyi said the deceased were students of Nasianda and Mapera secondary schools.
“One of them is a form three student at Nasianda secondary school while the other one is a form one student at Mapera secondary,” said Kwenyi.
The local administrator has warned residents against giving motorbikes to children below the age of 18 years and persons who don’t have driving licenses.
He said a legal action will be taken against owners of motorbikes that were involved in the accident.
The bodies were removed and taken to Kitale mortuary as police launched investigations into the incident.
