Two police officers have died following a grisly road accident that occurred this afternoon at Matulo along the busy Webuye–Malaba highway.
According to Bungoma South Sub-County Police Commander Rodgers Bosire, the officers of Bungoma Railways police station were travelling from Webuye when their vehicle collided head-on with a trailer approaching from the opposite direction. The impact of the crash was fatal, leaving both officers dead on the spot.

Eyewitnesses at the scene described the police vehicle as speeding moments before the collision. Some claimed the officers appeared to be in pursuit of a Probox vehicle. This account was echoed by the trailer’s conductor, who stated that the police car was trailing another vehicle when the crash occurred.

The trailer driver sustained injuries and was rushed to Webuye County hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased officers were taken to the mortuary of the same facility.

Addressing the media, Commander Bosire urged all road users to exercise caution, especially along major highways prone to accidents. He expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the officers and emphasized the need for responsible driving, even during official police operations.
