Two people have died after suffocating in a borehole at Lityei area West Pokot County.
The two were contracted to remove mud from the 30 feet borehole before falling into the death trap.
Kapenguria police station Officer Commanding Station OCS Lucas Wamocha said the two Peter Ruto and Nicholas Kipsang started cleaning the borehole at around 9.00 am in the morning.
He said after some time Kipsang while in the borehole was not communicating catching interest of Ruto who was outside the bore hole.
“Ruto prompted to go inside the borehole to check what was going on. Upon descending he got Kipsang had already suffocated to death.” Said Wamocha.
Wamocha added that after short while Kipsang also went silent while inside the borehole thus when the neighbors started being worried of the two.
“The neighbors retrieved the bodies and have been taken to Kapenguria County Referral hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.” He said
He said the two lacked oxygen while inside the borehole leading to their death.
“We have arrived at the scene when neighbors had retrieved one body while the other body was retrieved by the help of police officers and community members.” He added.
The incident comes barely one month after two people suffocated in the borehole while cleaning it at Chepareria area in Kipkomo Sub County.
