8 years old boy die after being electrocuted
A somber mood engulfed the home of Mr. & Mrs. Ndinyo in Nation Estate of Webuye town when the body of their 8 year old son arrived from the morgue.
Emmanuel Wabomba Ndinyo (Mash) a class two pupil of St. Joseph’s Webuye met his tragic death on Friday 29th April 2016 at 4.pm when he had gone out to play with his peer.
According to his mother Catherine Ndinyo a nurse at Webuye County Hospital, his son was playing with his friends after tuition from school near the ground where there were live wires of electricity then a person told them to go away of the place which they never obeyed.
He was riding a bicycle and all over a sudden the bicycle touched the live wires on the ground then he wanted to move out of the place and accidentally touched the wire.
“Mash was riding a bicycle that entered the place where the live wires were lying when he tried to remove it he accidentally touched the live wire,” said Mrs. Ndinyo.
The boy cried out for help but no one could save him because they were ignorant of what to do.
Despite the crowd that came after hearing the wailings from his friends, children and adults nobody was able to rescue the boy.
This was due to ignorance on the First Aid to undertake when somebody is caught on the tragedy of electricity.
Majimbo Kalasinga a political activist from Bungoma County accused the KPLC for doing poor work where many electrical posts in the Estate have hanging live wires.
He termed the death of the boy as negligence of the KLPC workers.
“Look at these live wires hanging on posts; this is dangerous to the lives of residents of this estate. You can’t convince me that whoever that did this is a qualified electrician. We have lost a young Engineer through negligence of a few workers of KLPC. It is unfortunate and I appeal to the KPLC to put proper measures and ensure that no live wire is accessible” articulated Majimbo.
Speaking to www.westfm.co.ke at the scene of the tragedy, Engineer Muyundo Wanyonyi uttered that there are some people who are not undergoing the Engineering courses fully, they come out half baked and make things that cause deaths.
He related the incident to the Huruma 7 storey building that collapsed and caused numerous deaths terming it as lack of knowledge on the Engineers who build it.
“We have some people who are coming out of the college or perhaps don’t even pass in any Engineering class and build storeys that collapsed and caused death, connect electricity and leave live wires hanging causing death of young ones like this boy , construct roads that lead to accidents day and night.” Wanyonyi stated.
Wanyonyi further said that whoever that was responsible of such careless and shoddy work should be snatched his Engineering license if he has one.
“I appeal to the Engineering Board to do follow up and retrieve the license from the KPLC worker who connected the electrical wires and left them hanging on the ground because it is an approval that the personnel is not qualified,” he reiterated.
Geoffrey Ndinyo, the father to the deceased described his son as being brilliant because he always topped in his class with high marks. He knew that his son will achieve his dream as an Engineer.
He also furthered his accusation to the KPLC of Webuye Branch saying that were it not of their negligence his son would not have died at such a tender age.
“My son was position 2 out of 99 in the last terms examination (term two) in class two, he used to tell me that he will be an Engineer in the future, unfortunately he has gone at this young age just because somebody slept on his job,” Mr. Ndinyo stated.
It is a challenge to the KPLC to provide First Aid Education to people so that they can know what to do when a person is caught in such a tragedy.
The body of the late was laid to rest on 4th May 2016 in their home in Tongaren Scheme Plot No. 1 in Bungoma County.
