Unions allied to Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology have issued a 21 day ultimatum to the Education Ministry to appoint a substantive VC, and three other deputy VCs for administration and finance, academic and students affairs and for planning, research and innovation, positions that have been filled in acting positions for over two years now.
Addressing the press in Kakamega town led by the UASU chairman Robinson Oduma, the KUSU chair Onzere Mulongo and his KUDHEIHA counterpart Edwin Wafula, the unionists claimed that events at the university have been majorly interfered with due to lack of substantive leadership. They claimed that major decisions on running the institute can’t be reached because almost all leaders are in acting capacity.
This follows the dismissal of a case filed by activist Okiya Omtatah who was against the appointments. The unions have called on Education CS Prof. George Magoha to act with speed.
