The Bungoma ministry of education has instructed the people operating unregistered school institutions in the County to register to avoid facing the full force of the law.
Speaking during the Education Day at Busakala secondary school in Kabuchai Sub County, Bungoma county director of education Mr. Charles Anyika said stiff measures will be taken against unregistered schools owners.
Anyika affirmed that many parents had been complaining of con men who had been milking thousands of money from them through fake schools.
“It has come to our attention that we have institutions that are operating without going through our offices and they are using the chances to squander money but let them get the required documents if told they want to escape the wrath of the ministry.” Anyika said.
The DOE also praised the effort of the national government and county government in supporting needy students’ education.
He said many students have seen a light of hope through the funding both from the president and national constituency development fund trust.
He also highlighted the major challenges that the schools head are going through urging all the stakeholders to intervene to a rest the situation.
According to him co curricular activities have been sidelined in most cases denying the talented students and pupils their rights to participate in the national games.
However, the does challenged the school management for primary schools to give the kids the best background that would motivate their ambitions.
“At this digital era we won’t anticipate to find pupils currying cow dung to school to smear their classes, a pupil sitting down on a dusty floor due to poor infrastructure at school. You are killing that child without knowing.” He uttered.
Also, he urged the parents to make use of the tertiary institutions found within the county to unburden the load of spending a lot of time and money in taking their children to the institution that are far.
He said the transition rate in Bungoma county for students joining the tertiary institutions remains at 80% majorly boys compared to girls.
The Kabuchai sub county director of education David Munialo who affirmed to the statements said his office would do a flood operation to a rest anyone operating a school illegally in his region.
Mr. Munialo used the opportunity to request the chiefs to take action to parents who abuse their children in the region. Using Chwele market as a good example, he said the rate of children who sell vegetables at the market has risen compared to other years recently.
Present was area member of national assembly James Mukwe who blamed parents for the rise of early marriages.
The MP also asked the local administration to take actions against people who are involving children in early circumcision practices before the schools are closed.
His sentiment were echoed by Mahanga friends secondary principal Matthias Ombonyo who attributed the acts with the high rate of pregnancies and poor performances at national exams.
