In a recent visit to various health facilities in Bungoma County, Senator Wafula Wakoli revealed severe deficiencies in the region’s healthcare facilities, underscoring an urgent need for support and intervention. At both Namarambi Health Centre and Makhonge Health Centre, the situations have reached a critical point, highlighting the necessity for immediate action to safeguard the well-being of local communities.
Namarambi Health Centre: A Cry for Essential Supplies
Located in Ndivisi Ward, Namarambi Health Centre has long been a beacon of hope for many residents. However, Senator Wakoli’s visit unveiled a troubling reality: the facility has been grappling with severe shortages of essential drugs and medical supplies for over a year. This prolonged scarcity is severely undermining the quality of care that the health center can offer to its patients.
While the Bungoma County government has made strides to improve healthcare infrastructure—such as the recent construction of a new maternity ward—the facility remains far from fully operational. This new ward, though a significant advancement, cannot be utilized to its full potential without adequate supplies and operational support.
Makhonge Health Centre: Power Outage Paralyzes Services
The situation at Makhonge Health Centre in Kamukuywa Ward is equally alarming. Serving over 26,000 residents from Kamukuywa and surrounding areas, this health center is a crucial lifeline for the community. Senator Wakoli’s visit brought to light a critical power outage issue caused by an outstanding electricity bill of Ksh 46,000.
Due to the power outage, the facility has been relying on an inadequate solar system, which has also led to a severe lack of water supply. This compounded issue is further compromising the center’s ability to provide essential services and meet the needs of its patients.
A Call for Decisive Action
The severity of these issues cannot be overstated. The health and well-being of thousands of residents depend on the effective operation of these healthcare facilities. Senator Wakoli is calling for immediate action from county leadership to address these critical deficiencies. It is imperative to replenish drug stocks at Namarambi Health Centre and settle the electricity bill at Makhonge Health Centre to restore full functionality and ensure the centers can continue to serve their communities effectively.
A Community in Need
“As we reflect on these challenges, it is vital for all stakeholders—including the county government, local communities, and concerned citizens—to unite and support the revitalization of these essential healthcare services. The road to recovery may be challenging, but with collective effort and commitment, we can ensure that Namarambi and Makhonge Health Centres continue to provide the care that every resident deserves.” Said Senator Wakoli
The time for action is now. Senator Wafula Wakoli urges everyone to come together and address the pressing healthcare needs of Bungoma County. “Let us work together to make a meaningful difference and support our healthcare system in this critical time.” He concluded
