Bungoma County is set to revolutionize its healthcare services thanks to a generous donation of medical equipment and supplies valued at Sh59 million from USAID’s Dumisha Afya initiative. This significant contribution was officially handed over at the Bungoma County Referral Hospital, marking a pivotal step towards enhancing the quality of care for residents.
Digital Transformation in Healthcare
The donation includes 726 vital items such as Samsung Galaxy tablets, HP ProBooks, desktop computers, weighing scales for adults and children, office furniture, and solar panel installations. Health and Sanitation CECM Carolyne Makali emphasized the importance of these resources in digitizing healthcare facilities, streamlining workloads for health professionals, and improving overall service delivery. “These resources will significantly enhance the quality of care we provide to our clients,” Makali stated.
Improving Access to Specialized Care
The medical supplies and equipment will be distributed across various health facilities in Bungoma County, significantly reducing the need for patients to travel long distances for specialized care. This initiative not only addresses immediate healthcare challenges but also fosters a more efficient healthcare system in the region.
Strengthening the Workforce
Dr. Magrina Mayama, Chief Officer of Health, highlighted that this partnership also supports human resources development, with over 200 healthcare workers employed across the county. She commended Dumisha Afya for its efforts in capacity building, particularly in governance, ensuring that health workers are well-equipped to provide top-notch services.
A Commitment to Quality Healthcare
Dr. Everline Ashiono, Chief of Party for USAID Dumisha Afya, reiterated their dedication to strengthening the healthcare system in Bungoma County. “We are pleased to partner with Bungoma County to ensure our clients receive quality healthcare through this donation,” she remarked.
As Bungoma County embarks on this new chapter in healthcare delivery, the collaboration with USAID’s Dumisha Afya initiative promises a brighter, healthier future for its residents. With modern equipment and a committed workforce, the region is on its way to achieving significant improvements in health outcomes.
