Vihiga county women representative Dorcas Kedogo has said the National government development fund is set to benefit poor women in the society.
He say’s the move would boost the economic status of the County.
She said the funds will help women who are doing business to expand their projects pointing out five table banking groups as the greatest beneficiaries in Hamisi Sub County.
“The government has released the funds that women had eagerly awaited to kick start their projects so far five groups have benefited by receiving the funds,’’ she said.
Kedogo said among the groups in the county that have benefited from the projects are widows are set to get Ksh 98,000 per group within the five sub counties, Emuhaya, Vihiga, Sabatia, Luanda and Hamisi respectively.
She said that many groups would have benefitted from the table banking kitty approved by the board at the National office but the application requirements were not met by some of the applicants.
“There were many applicants but a majority of them did not meet the requirements, The beneficiaries especially the widows are going to get the funds to expand their business,” Kedogo said.
She said the government should allocate more funds to the kitty to help the poor initiate projects that would improve their livelihood”. She said.
“The women across the County are very happy and I ask the government to pump in more funds for bursaries and sanitary towels for the girl child,’’ Kedogo said.
