Two people are being held at Vihiga Police Station over fraud. The two, along with others who escaped, conned 2000 job seekers at Hambale Catholic church in Vihiga County. Vihiga Police Commander Elisha Odhiambo said the culprit solicited Ksh 100 from each job seeker. They had traveled from different parts of the country, with the knowledge that they had gone for an interview to join a Non-Government organization called Sub-Sahara African Safe Promotion Foundation (S.S.A.P).

One of the victims said they had suspected the process and had reservations about it, saying they could smell mischief in the exercise and how it was being conducted, and they immediately alerted the police.

The Police Boss said the two were arrested after failing to produce crucial information over the N.G.O and where its offices are based. “The two failed to give the correct information over the organization and they will remain in custody with us until we finalize our investigations,” Odhiambo, the police boss, said.

One of those arrested was the organization’s Director Mr. Walter Lovogo who hails from Sabatia Sub County. The dubious organization is said to have its headquarters in Nairobi and a branch in Vihiga but the said office could not be traced.

The Boss warned the public who are desperate for jobs to be on the lookout and be conned by fraudsters over employment. “I challenge the youth mainly those who are in dire need of employment to be very careful not to fall prey to such fraudsters,” Odhiambo said.
