Civil servants in Vihiga County have been cautioned against frustrating the national government’s effort to offer better services to locals. Vihiga County Commissioner, Mr. Alex ole Nkoyo made the remarks when he addressed staff that will be working at the new Huduma Centre at the County Headquarters on today.
The staff meeting was part of the preparations ahead of the centre’s official launch set to be done before the end of this week.
Vihiga Huduma Centre becomes the 48th to be constructed and equipped by the national government.
Nkoyo warned the government would not tolerate civil servants who violate work ethics for selfish gains. “The main objective behind one-stop-shop Huduma Centres is to enable
the government provide efficient public services to the citizens as well as minimize corruption and related vices,” Nkoyo told the civil servants, among them chiefs and assistant chiefs.
Nkoyo said his office, with help of Heads of Departments (HoDs), would closely monitor operations at the Vihiga Huduma Centre as well as other government offices. “Any public servant caught engaging in gross misconduct behaviour, especially corruption, would be dealt with in accordance with provisions of the law,” Nkoyo cautioned.
The commissioner urged the workers to enhance national government’s positive image at the grassroots by upholding work etiquette such as cleanliness, transparency and accountability whenever discharging their core duties.
The Huduma Kenya Secretariat Director, Mrs Jacqueline Otwori, graced the occasion. Mrs Atwori appealed to the Heads of Department to encourage servants under them to deliver services efficiently.
She singled out and thanked the police abstract and Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) counters for the best in customer service provision, according to the latest scorecard ranking survey.
President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to officially launch the Vihiga Huduma Centre during his Thursday tour of the region.
