Residents of Vihiga County have elected new faces as members of National and County Assemblies and the Governor. Official polling results announced at the County and constituency tallying centres indicate the County will have a new Governor after Emuhaya Member of Parliament Wilber Otichilo trounced the incumbent Governor Moses Akaranga.
Otichilo managed to garner 82,220 votes with Governor Akaranga getting 65,539 votes.
Sabatia Member of Parliament (MP), Mr. Alfred Agoi his Luanda counterpart, Mr. Chris Omulele and Hamisi legislator, Mr. Charles Gimose managed to retain their parliamentary seats.
Agoi of Amani National Congress (ANC) retained the seat after trouncing his closest opponent, Mr. Aggrey Mulamba of Progressive Party of Kenya (PPK). The incumbent MP garnered 31,849 votes against Mulamba’s 7,870.
In Luanda Sub County, Omulele of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) defeated ANC’s Mr. Arthur Apungu with a margin of 3,644 votes. The incumbent secured 14, 652 votes against Apungu’s 11,008 votes.
Ford Kenya’s (FK) Gimose easily retained the seat after humiliating his closest rival, Mr, Nelson Muturi of ANC by a wider margin. Gimose got 22,889 votes against Muturi’s 10,477.
Vihiga Constituency will be represented by a new leader in the national assembly after Mr. Ernest Ogesi defeated outgoing Woman Representative, Mrs Dorcas Kedogo. Kagesi won with 12,258 votes against Kedogo’s 10,049. The seat was left vacant after Yusuf Chanzu contested for the gubernatorial position.
Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) official, Mr. Omboko Milemba is the new MP for Emuhaya Constituency.
Omboko garnered 14,413 votes before taking over the seat, which hitherto been held by Dr. Wilber Otichilo who went for the gubernatorial seat.
Except for eight sitting Members of Vihiga County Assembly, the rest were shown the door by the electorate in the just concluded general elections.
The eight include Tom Alingo (PPK) of Luanda Township ward, Nixion
Butiya (Independent) of Shiru ward, Wycliffe Masini (ANC) of Mung’oma ward, Stephen Mugalitsi (PPK) of Chavakali ward and Francis Ukiru (PPK) of Lyduywa/Izara ward.
Others are Vincent Atsiaya (Independent) of Wodanga, Zakayo Munyasa (PPK) of Mwibona and Zacharia Murefu (ANC) of Jepkoyai ward in Hamisi.
ANC will have majority seats in Vihiga County Assembly followed by PPK.
ANC has a total of nine MCAS while PPK will be represented by 5 MCAs. ODM and FK have three seats each.
The county assembly will have two Independent MCAS with Federal Party of Kenya (FPK), Kadu Asili, United Democratic Party (UDP) being represented one MCA each.
