Vihiga County has unveiled elaborate plans to upgrade the Early Childhood Development Education in a bid to improve Education standards.
Education Executive Committee Member Prof Musalia Edebe said that the sector was key to academic development of children and that is why the county was investing more resources in its development.
He added that so far 30modern ECDE centres have been constructed in the county, spread across the five sub counties.

He added that in their plans a department they targeted construction of 78 modern EDCE centres in the county.
“We are planning to construct four ECDE centres in each ward, He explained. The county has 25 wards.
Edebe noted that 747 ECDE teachers have been put on a salary top up by the county.
He noted that the county has not employed the teachers because KNUT had gone to court to block the move.
“What we are giving ECDE teachers is not salaries but a top up because the matter is in court,” he explained.
He noted that in improving education standards in the county youth polytechnics have also been constructed and old ones rehabilitated to meet the required standards.
Edebe said that 87 poly instructors had been put on top up salaries while students joining the institutions had their fee paid by the county.
