The county government of Vihiga has received medical equipment worth sh. 30M from Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA).
While receiving drugs from KEMSA at the County headquarters Governor Wilber Ottichilo said he had requested for drugs worth sh. 60M.
“We have received drugs worth sh.30 M from KEMSA at the moment and we are waiting for the second dispatch of another sh. 30M,” Ottichilo said.
The governor said the drugs will help in improving health services in the County.
The drugs are expected to be distributed to all 73 health facilities across the County.
“We urge our staff on health services to ensure they are making good use of those drugs for the sake of our people across the County,” he said.
Ottichilo warned the staff against drug theft.
He said those who will be found in the drug theft scum will be dealt as individuals.
Initially the County has been battling with drug theft to private facilities under unclear circumstances.
In the recent past the facilities of Emuhaya Sub County hospital in Luanda and Ipali health center had lost medical equipment under unclear circumstances
In a previous event, Ottichilo said the health department requires about Sh 80 to Sh100 million quarterly to ensure smooth operations in the health sector across the County.
